Zaxxon and Kal'El

As you've probably noticed, I've decided to refrain from using my children's names on this blog.  I figure there's plenty of time before they decide they want to create online identities for themselves and I'd rather not advertise too much personal information in case any creeps happen by my blog.  HOWEVER, now that I have two boys I can't just keep saying "my son" anymore.  It'd be confusing keeping track of which son I'm referring to, so I decided I needed something a little more distinct.  To that end, I will now be using my sons' "It Names" to identify them.  (Their It Names are the names we called them in utero before we knew whether they were boys or girls.)

So now I would like to introduce:

Zaxxon

My older son, who is currently 2 1/2 and the one you've been hearing about since this blog began.  The name Zaxxon came from a friend of my husband's, who "suggested" it as a name for our baby.  We thought it was fun and used it before he was born.  We later found out it's the name of a boss in some video game.

Kal'El

My husband kept (I think he was half-serious) pushing for the name "Kal" if we had another boy in order to name him after Superman.  I, of course, was not okay with that.  So then hubby decided he would call the baby "Kal'El" in the womb, since he knew he wasn't going to persuade me to actually use the name.

So there you have it.  This is how I will differentiate between them from now on, and still keep their actual identities private.

Maternity Leave

Well, I've finally frozen the "Days Without Not Writing" counter.  My son was born when I'd done 267 days straight, so that's where I'll pick up again.

Maternity leave was definitely a good idea--we're far from having any consistency in our days yet.  I'm dreading hubby's return to work, even though he'll only be doing half days at first, because I'll have to get both kids up and fed in the morning.  Nights haven't been too bad (mostly,) but trying to get everything done early enough to feed my older son breakfast is a little daunting.  But we'll get through it.  I'm already quite a bit more relaxed about this baby than my first.

Okay, that's all.  Just wanted to let you know where the pause in writing stands.

A Glitch in the Continuum Cover!

In the chaos following having my second son, it took me over a week to get my contract for A Glitch in the Continuum signed and returned (oops.)  But it's in now, and I'm looking forward to receiving this next book.  In case you've forgotten (it's been a while,) Glitch will contain my story Pandora's Time.  I also recently received the cover art for the book, so here it is!
All rights will return to me if they don't get it published within two years, but I'm not expecting it to take nearly that long.  It'll probably be a few more months.

It's a Boy!!!

I would like to introduce my son, born on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 11:17am!
I thought I was going into labor on Monday night (only got about 2 hours of sleep, then contractions kept me awake) however it abruptly stopped at about 10:00am.  So then last night it started up again, but more intense.  Around 5:00am I considered calling the doctor but the contractions suddenly fell in intensity and I thought I might be able to sleep between them (quite a feat considering they were about 7 minutes apart--hey, I was tired) so I opted to do that instead.  Then I wasn't sure whether labor would continue or stop again in the morning, so hubby took off for work as usual.  I called the doc a little later, and she told me to go to the hospital, so hubby logged all of 10 minutes at work today (oops.)  By the time we left the house (we had to take the toddler with us since my parents are farther away and hadn't arrived yet) I was seriously concerned about whether we'd have time to get there as the contractions were starting to change again (not a good thing, considering I was attempting a vbac.)  I seriously scared my poor son with my displays of pain.  I tried to reassure him that it was just part of having a baby and having a baby hurts, and he promptly went around repeating "Mama baby owie" for the rest of the morning.  At any rate, my parents arrived shortly after us to take him off our hands, and the new baby arrived within about 30 minutes as I was already fully dilated.

So it's been quite an eventful day and I'm quite tired, but I wanted to post and share!
